FraxelDual Laser Treatment in Boston

Dr. Min S. Ahn is the trusted choice for individuals seeking radiant and youthful skin without the commitment of surgery. Always at the forefront of technology, Dr. Ahn’s practice was one of the first offices in New England to offer the Fraxel dual laser treatment, an innovative system that, unlike older lasers, can treat multiple areas in a single session. Safe for all skin types and tones, the Fraxel dual laser system produces immediate results with ongoing improvement for long-lasting rejuvenation.

More About Laser Skin Resurfacing with the Fraxel Dual Laser

The Fraxel dual laser uses microscopic columns of laser energy to penetrate the deep layers of the skin and trigger the body’s collagen regeneration process. Collagen is a protein responsible for the skin’s firm and elastic quality. As the Fraxel dual laser penetrates through the skin, it creates tiny wounds on the dermis of the skin. The body responds by producing fresh, new collagen, which in turn leads to healthier and younger-looking skin. In addition, superficial and deep pigment (brown spots) are lightened significantly.

Treatment with the Fraxel dual laser is very safe, as it only treats a fraction of the skin at a time. This also means the surrounding skin is left untouched. The Fraxel dual laser can be performed on its own or in conjunction with another skin or anti-aging treatment to produce superior results.

What the Fraxel Dual Laser Treats

The Fraxel dual laser can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, arms and hands for the following skin problems:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines, including crow’s feet and brow lines
  • Acne scars
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Large pores
  • Red, dry or dull skin caused by sun damage
  • Poor skin tone and texture

Procedure Details

Before treatment, the treatment area will be cleansed thoroughly. Numbing cream is applied for about an hour. Treatment with the Fraxel dual laser is generally tolerable; most patients report feeling a warm prickly sensation. For patients who wish to not feel any sensation during treatment, Dr. Ahn and his team may recommend either Pronox, (mixture of laughing gas and oxygen) or intravenous sedation, a treatment known as “Friendly Fraxel”. Treatment typically takes 30 minutes to one hour to complete, depending on the size and number of treatment areas.

What to Expect After Treatment

Immediately after treatment, the skin will feel slightly warm. Redness and swelling are normal and should subside over the next few days as the skin heals. Although patients can resume normal activities and socialize immediately after treatment, they should postpone important events (i.e., weddings, reunions), as the skin may be peeling and swollen for the first 3-4 days. Sun protection is important after treatment. Patients should wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least several weeks post-treatment and wear protective clothing whenever outdoors. The final results are visible within two to three months after treatment. For best results, Dr. Ahn recommends scheduling an annual treatment to maintain results.
